Letter written at West Bloomfield, N.Y. to Thomas Hale, New Port, Mass. "Since I last heard from you... I have been almost foure years in the U.S. Service altho have ben in a number of Engagements-escaped unhurt except a slight wound in my arm..., on the memorable 11th Sept. 1814 at Plattsburgh-I obtained my discharge at Detroit on the 9th of April 1816 by procuring a substitute having to pay him 75 dollars-..."
